"Becoming Orthodox for me was the natural end of my search for an authentic and true catholicism. I had spent 40+ years as a Roman Catholic and Anglo-Catholic Anglican. Although I remain close to both communions, and while both reflect positively certain elements of the catholic faith of the undivided Church, only Holy Orthodoxy possesses the fullest vision of the Church founded by Christ. It has been said that Orthodoxy is about Truth -- the Truth of God in His Church. For me, this Truth was found by coming home to the true catholic Church which has preached the Word and kept His sacraments for 2000 years... Holy Orthodoxy." -- Paul, non-profit fundraiser "My conversion to Orthodoxy was not based on emotional or social needs but rather a hunger for the Truth. Having tried numerous denominations over the years, I felt disillusioned and discouraged because the faiths that I had been taught were unsustainable and confusing. Surely Christianity was meant to be more. This "more" I found is in the Orthodox Church. I no longer was my own interpreter of Scripture, for I had the writings of the early Church Fathers and Apostles, the Christian councils, and the instruction of my priest to guide me. I no longer was a lone ranger in my faith, for I joined a worldwide community whose spiritual life through its fastings, feastings, worship, and sacraments show me what it truly means to be the "Body of Christ." The Orthodox Church in general and parish of Holy Trinity in particular are my lifeline to Christ. It is here that I encounter His majesty and beauty in the Divine Liturgy and see His mercy, grace, and love worked out through His people." -- Cindy, stay-at-home mom "As a teen, I struggle with many significant decisions every day. Being an Orthodox Christian makes my struggle easier, guiding me through a maze of choices. My faith makes my struggle less lonely, giving me strength when I feel lost. But, most importantly, Orthodoxy makes my struggle meaningful, teaching me that life is a miraculous gift that I am only beginning to understand." -- Johanna, lifelong member of Holy Trinity "I grew up an active Methodist in Kansas City, Missouri. However, in college, through reading and travel, I discovered a religious void. When a friend introduced me to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, I found truth in answers to questions I had not yet even realized. Suddenly saints and sacraments made sense to me. Truly, the Holy Spirit guided me to a loving spiritual family." -- Vicki, high school teacher |
